WomenTechIceland and RIKK have collaborated on a 4-part discussion series on diversity, equity, integration and belonging (DEIB) in the tech space in Iceland, and beyond. The topics covered include hiring processes, complaints mechanisms, what works in DEIB, and exploring the current DEIB backlash globally.

The Nordic Women in Tech Awards (#NWITA23) today announced the winners of its annual awards program, revealed during the annual gala event, hosted at Harpa Conference and Concert venue in Reykjavik, Iceland, on 9 November. Among the 260 guests in attendance were First Lady of Iceland, Eliza Reid, and Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir, who kicked off the event with two compelling and thought-provoking keynotes. Ambassadors and embassy representatives from all of the Nordic countries, as well as a press delegation accompanying our Presenting Partner, Business Iceland, were also present.

Volunteer opportunity at the 2023 Nordic Women in Tech Awards!

Nordic Women in Tech Awards (#NWITA) today announced the national finalists for each Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The annual awards program is dedicated to honouring women leaders and emerging leaders in technology across the Nordic countries, will host its gala event at the stunning Harpa Conference and Concert venue in Reykjavik, Iceland, on 9 November 2023. Overall winners for each of the 10 categories will be announced live at the gala event.

Iceland Innovation Week just wrapped up and what a week it was! Full of events, meetings, pitches, and awards, it celebrated the best of Icelandic innovation. But any discussion on Iceland would not be complete without including gender. So, here are the stats: 5 of the 81 listed events specifically addressed the status of women in the innovation sector, an 83/81 female/male split of speakers at events, the majority of events had mixed male and female panels. The nature of these types of events mean that the leaders of the field are most likely to be speaking. So, it looks like there are quite a few women in positions of power and influence in innovation in Iceland: academics, top-level government officials, founders, c-suiters, and NGO leaders. Well done Iceland and the Iceland Innovation Week organizers.

Nominations for Nordic Women in Tech Awards 2023 are open until 23 June 2023! The annual awards will be hosted in Reykjavik, Iceland. WomenTechIceland has been named the 2023 host partner.

International Women’s Day is a platform to offer solutions against the backdrop of the 2023 United Nations theme “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality” and "the need for inclusive and transformative technology and digital education.” Inclusivity is a key aspect of the UN agenda. As the most diverse women in tech trade organization in Iceland, it’s a major focus of WomenTechIceland’s work.

WomenTechIceland, a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion in the tech industry, today announced its incoming Board of Directors for 2023. The new Board of Directors includes Alondra Silva Muñoz, Director of Marketing at Kaptio, Ingibjörg Lilja “Ingsa” Þórmundsdóttir, Co-founder and CEO of Orgz, Ólöf Kristjánsdóttir, Head of Marketing in the tech sector, Randi Stebbins, Co-founder of Ós Pressan, researcher in IWEV, Technical writer at AGR Dynamics, Þóra Óskarsdóttir, DIrector, FabLab Reykjavik, and WomenTechIceland Co-founders Valenttina Griffin and Paula Gould.

The Nordic Women in Tech Awards recognizes an inspirational organization or person for their accomplishments as leaders in business and visionaries of technology who have made a difference in their community and have gone out of their way to support the cause of attracting more women in the tech industry over the last 24 months.

The Women Innovators Incubator program is a part of a year-long partnership between WomenTechIceland, Huawei Iceland and Women in Technology Huawei that was launched in 2021. The incubator aims to motivate women to recognize and explore the potential of their ideas.

The Women Innovators incubator program aims to motivate women to recognize and explore the potential of their ideas, whether or not they possess technical skills and business skills.  All that is required is having an idea that could create positive change and a curiosity to learn how to use technology, business tools and collaboration to bring these great ideas to life.
